The Third Man
Relaxing in a Viennese wine bar after a day of shooting on The Third Man, director Carol Reed and his cast were struck by the zither playing of Anton Karas, a local musician playing for tips. On the spot, Reed hired him to compose and play the score.
A score which Roger Ebert would describe as perhaps the most perfectly matched music to story ever.
And would also inspire Nino Rota's score for Fellini's La Dolce Vita.
