Python
When Graham Chapman, of Monty Python, came out in the late 60s, they received a letter from a woman saying that she had heard that one of the team was gay and they should know that the Bible says that any man who lies with a man should be taken out and stoned. Eric Idle sent her a letter saying "We've found out who it was and we've taken him out and had him killed."
In his memoir, Chapman said that this took place just before John Cleese left the show, and he always wondered what the woman thought about that.
