Linus Pauling

 Linus Pauling left high school without a diploma, lacking two history credits. Pauling proposed an intensive study of the courses to be taken concurrently.

His principal denied his request.

45 years later, the school awarded him an honorary diploma.

AFTER he had been awarded two Nobel Prizes, one for chemistry and the Peace Prize.
